Sewing Machines

2022

At a thrift store in Salmon Arm, BC, old sewing machines are used as weights to hold down tarpaulins. The thrift store is one or two blocks north of the Trans-Canada Highway, which at this point is a 50 kph, four lane city street. It is a similar distance south of Shuswap Lake. It is across the road from Canadian Pacific Railway’s main line. When a long train rumbles by, the earth moves.

In June there were ten or twelve sewing machines. In November there was only one.
