Blue Bins

2021

We collect paper, flatten boxes and rinse cans and plastic containers. On Wednesday every two weeks I took our blue bins to the curb between six and seven in the morning.

The streets are empty at this hour but you can see that a few of my neighbours were out before me. While not a busy street, you don’t have to wait long to see people walking dogs, cyclists, joggers or parents and children going to and from the elementary school a block away. They are some of the thousands in our town who filled their blue bins.

The photographs were taken between February and September of this year, so they record the changing light and weather early in the morning. The photographs also record the end of the road for these bins. To make collection more efficient, they were replaced with big blue wheelie bins.
