Yellow Stripes

2018

On a spring road trip I brought along an old Stereo Graphic. It is an odd looking 35 mm camera with two lenses, easy to use and fun to play with. Unfortunately, the 3D effect in the photographs was weak. This led me to experiment with single black and white prints. For some reason I had my heart set on a blue and yellow combo. I tried water colours, pencil crayons and photo oil paints. Ho hum, blah, boring. I tried yellow stripes of acrylic paint but they seemed a bit harsh. It was time to go digital. I exchanged the blue for an overall sepia tone but persevered with the yellow stripes. On the computer they turned out softer and more fluid. Sometimes if I stare at the stripes for a little while they seem to levitate, to take on a life of their own.
